Micron (MU US) fell 13.25% on Friday to extend a two-day slide, the hardest hit among large-cap chipmakers as the memory trade that led the AI rally unwound. The drop coincided with a market rumor that NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform could carry less on-board memory.
NVIDIA (NVDA US) fell 6.2% in the broad sell-off, with the decline coinciding with renewed scrutiny of possible backdoor AI-chip sales into China alongside the wider repricing of the AI trade.
Intel (INTC US) dropped 11.28%, among the steepest large-cap falls, giving back part of a rally that had run more than 450% off its low, as the jobs-driven rate scare hit the most speculative names hardest.
Broadcom (AVGO US) fell 7.92% on Friday, extending losses after Wednesday's results, when AI revenue up 143% to US$10.8bn was overshadowed by guidance the market judged merely in line.
Marvell (MRVL US) fell 10.13% on Friday even as the company prepared to join the S&P 500, having passed the index's profitability test on the strength of its AI custom-silicon business.
TSMC (TSM US) ADR fell 6.69% to $415.17, dragging Taiwan index futures to a record overnight drop, though local desks framed the move as a positioning unwind rather than a change in the foundry's demand outlook.
Quanta (2382 TT) rose more than 10% over the week to a 27-year high before Friday's sell-off, on AI server momentum and Computex demand, one of the few large-cap gainers of the week.

AI chip stocks shed US$1.3tn as Taiwan futures plunge a record 3,006 points

Top Market Signals

Taiwan futures crash a record 3,006 points

Taiwan index futures fell a record 3,006 points, or 6.65%, in overnight trading to 42,220, the largest single-day point drop in the market's history, after a US$1.3tn rout in AI and chip stocks battered Wall Street on Friday.

The selling began when Broadcom (AVGO US) reported Wednesday and an AI guide the market judged merely in line failed to satisfy richly priced expectations. It accelerated Friday after a far stronger than expected US May jobs report killed hopes of a near-term Federal Reserve rate cut. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell 10.26% to 12,221, its worst single day since March 2020. The Nasdaq dropped 4.18%, its largest fall since the early-2025 tariff shock.

The damage concentrated in the most crowded AI names. Micron (MU US), the memory bellwether of this cycle, fell 13.25% after an 8% drop the prior day. Intel (INTC US) lost 11.28%, AMD (AMD US) 10.86%, Broadcom 7.92%, and NVIDIA (NVDA US) 6.2%. TSMC's ADR (TSM US) fell 6.69% to $415.17. Investors rotated into healthcare and consumer staples.

Local desks read the move as a positioning unwind. CITIC Securities Investment Consulting noted the futures briefly hit limit-down on program stop-losses and thin late-night liquidity, not a fundamental break, and described the episode as a valuation correction and a squeeze of froth, with advanced-process and semiconductor demand still intact. The prior record single-day drop, 2,065 points, came in April 2025 on the US reciprocal-tariff announcement. Taiwan's cash market reopens Monday.

Memory leads the fall even as HBM4 clears Vera Rubin

Memory and storage names led the sell-off, an unusual reversal for the group that has been the cycle's leadership trade, after a market rumor that NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform could carry less on-board memory sent storage stocks tumbling, with SanDisk down more than 11%.

The drop came in the same week that NVIDIA certified all three major memory makers, Samsung (005930 KS), SK Hynix (000660 KS), and Micron (MU US), for HBM4 supply on Vera Rubin, the clearest sign yet that the next AI platform's highest-value memory socket is set. Micron fell anyway, down 13% on Friday, even after the certification.

The split underlines the gap between supply news and positioning. HBM4 qualification is a multi-year revenue commitment; Friday's move was the unwind of a trade that 24/7 Wall St. labeled the "Parabolic 7." The Rubin capacity rumor is unconfirmed, and a lower-memory configuration on one platform would not reverse the broader tightness that has SK Hynix's chairman planning to double capacity by the end of the decade.

Foxconn allies with Intel and SK Group as server sales jump 34%

Foxconn (2317 TT) announced two new alliances on Wednesday, one with Intel (INTC US) to build a new-generation AI platform and one with South Korea's SK Group to develop AI servers, data centers, and energy systems, as the assembler reported May revenue up 34% year on year on NVIDIA server demand.

The deals extend a fast-widening web of partnerships. Foxconn formed a chip-packaging joint venture with France's Thales and Radiall earlier this month, and its tie-ups now span compute through Intel, memory and power through SK, and advanced packaging through the French venture. The common thread is positioning Foxconn as a full-stack AI infrastructure builder rather than a contract assembler.

The 34% revenue gain shows the demand the equity sell-off is questioning remains intact at the order level. AI servers are the single largest driver of the mix, and management has guided group profit to roughly double over two years on that shift, a target reiterated through the recent Computex cycle.

Taiwan 50 swaps old-economy stalwarts for four AI names

Taiwan's benchmark Taiwan 50 Index will add four AI supply-chain names, Global Unichip (3443 TT), Nan Ya PCB (8046 TT), Zhen Ding (4958 TT), and BizLink (3665 TT), and drop four traditional heavyweights, China Steel (2002 TT), Formosa Plastics (1301 TT), Hotai Motor (2207 TT), and KangPu, in the exchange's quarterly review.

The reshuffle marks how completely AI has reshaped Taiwan's market. The four additions are an ASIC designer, two PCB and substrate makers, and an interconnect supplier, all leveraged to AI server and accelerator build-outs; the four deletions are steel, petrochemicals, autos, and a biotech that lost market value. Related ETF rebalancing across the Taiwan 50 and high-dividend indices will move about NT$3.35tn, with the changes effective after the June 18 close.

Passive flows now mechanically chase the AI chain. Index funds tracking the Taiwan 50 must buy the four entrants and sell the leavers, a structural bid under names already central to the AI trade, landing the same week that trade took its sharpest equity hit of the cycle.

Apollo and Blackstone close US$35bn to buy AI chips for Anthropic

Apollo Global Management and Blackstone finalized a US$35bn financing package for Anthropic to fund its AI infrastructure build-out, one of the largest private-credit deals struck for compute, landing the same day chip equities lost US$1.3tn of market value.

The structure matters as much as the size. The money is debt raised to buy AI chips and data-center capacity, not equity in Anthropic, which means the demand it represents is contractually committed regardless of where NVIDIA or Broadcom shares trade. Anthropic filed for an IPO last week, and US officials have separately discussed taking government equity stakes in both Anthropic and OpenAI.

The deal cuts against the sell-off's bubble narrative. On the same Friday that public markets repriced the AI trade, private credit underwrote US$35bn of new chip demand, a reminder that the spending cycle driving Taiwan's supply chain is increasingly financed off the public market's books.

Taiwan memory and networking names post record May sales

Three Taiwan suppliers, memory maker Winbond (2344 TT), server-management chip designer Aspeed (5274 TT), and networking vendor Accton (2345 TT), each reported record May revenue with year-on-year growth above 50%, hard operating data that ran opposite to the week's equity panic.

Winbond's May revenue reached NT$20.0bn, its first month above NT$20bn and up 182% year on year, on rising memory prices and demand; its April and May combined already exceed all of 1Q26. Aspeed, whose baseboard management controllers sit in nearly every AI server, posted NT$1.28bn, up 68.7% and a seventh straight record month. Accton reached NT$28.6bn, up 56.6%, and guided 2Q26 revenue up about 20% QoQ.

The bottleneck is on the supply side. Aspeed's chairman said orders are not the problem; substrate shortages are, pushing some deliveries into next year, with full relief now expected in the fourth quarter rather than the third. The prints land as a counterweight to the equity sell-off: the operating data accelerated in May while the stocks were being marked down.
